First Northeast Bi-Trans-Intersex Conference To Be Held at Yale University

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Transcending Boundaries: Celebrating the Spectrum of Sexuality, Gender, and Sex will bring together bisexual, trans, and intersex people in a conference designed to increase understanding, build solidarity, and encourage social and political activism. The conference will be held at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, October 19-21, 2001.

* Keynote speakers will include: Evelyn Mantilla, the first openly bisexual Connecticut State Representative; Emi Koyama, intersex activist and educator; and Jamison Green, transgender activist, writer, and columnist for PlanetOut.com.

* Workshops will cover topics such as visibility, activism, coming out, relationships, and more.

* A Ňcommunity meetingÓ will provide a forum for attendees to discuss both unique and shared issues of their communities, and to consider ways to work collectively to support common goals.

* Social events will include an open-mic coffeehouse, a dance, an open-house at the New Haven Gay and Lesbian Community Center, a reception at New HavenŐs City-Wide Open Studios, and a walking tour of Queer New Haven.

The conference is sponsored by a number of local, regional, and national organizations, including the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Cooperative at Yale, BiNet USA, the Bisexual Resource Center, the Connecticut Outreach Society, and the New Haven Gay and Lesbian Community Center.
