I have received several inquiries about this “Portland LGBT+ Book Club,” so I want to clarify that I have nothing to do with it, and is most likely a scam.
Someone is using my name to recruit authors to participate in “Portland LGBT+ Book Club,” inviting their work to be featured. For a book to be featured, the authors are required to pay a $255-300 “support fee.” I do not coordinate any book club or have ever solicited such fees. I can’t say if there’s another person named Emi Koyama who happened to live in Portland who happened to be LGBT+ and an avid reader, but my guess is that this is just a scam. Please beware!
[April 10 update] I receivd my fourth inquiry about this, which tells me there must be hundreds of recipients. If you receive such solicitation from fake me, can you forward it to me and tell me about your work (a link to your writings is fine)? I want to track the spread of this phenomenon.
[April 29 update] So I have receive dozens of emails about this, especially since I requested people to report if they have received solicitations, but some people are still contacting me unsure if its legit, or actively wanting to be included in the promotion after the original email they were responding to got blocked, not realizing that it’s a scam.
Also, the funniest episode of this not-so-funny LLM scam attempt involving fake me must be: apparently, the fake AI of me solicited SUSAN STRYKER to pay fake me $$$ to feature her book in my fake “book club” because yoiu know Susan Stryker could use some exposure from some fake Emi Koyama.

Apparently, there are a number of scam “book clubs” floating about, approaching indie and small-press authors to have their books “featured” in some monthly discussion … for a hefty fee. An acquaintance of mine was approached twice; the first time, he forwarded the email to his publisher who replied requesting info and references, and received no reply; the second email was so much like the first that they just emailed a “we-know-you’re-a-scam-go-away” reply.
